Music Review – New York (2009)
Yash Raj Films will be the first big production house to release their film after the long strike between the producers and multiplexers. After waiting for such a long time, YRF all set to release their first movie this year ‘New York’. The promos of New York were aired along with the release of ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ so its quite a long time for the music to release.
All right folks! So here we are bringing you the music review of New York, with music composed by Pritam Chakraborty, Pankaj Awasthi & Julius Packiam. Pritam who has been well established in the industry with his quality work. Lyrics are given by Sandeep Shrivastava and Junaid Wasi.
Hai Junoon - This is the first song of the movie New York. This song is soo much better than i expected. The guitar work is just outstanding and while listening to the song one would try to sing along with the tune. You will notice that it is not exactly the same as in the trailer, the melody is bit different. KK just rocked in this song and music by Pritam is just outstanding. The chorus work is simply amazing and as the chorus should do it doesn’t dominates the main vocal track. In all its the best song from the movie. Read more
Music Review – Delhi 6
Delhi 6 is the forthcoming Bollywood film directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra starring Abhishek Bachchan , Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles. After immense success of Rang De Basanti, which was India’s official entry to the Oscars, he is back with a movie relating his own childhood memories. The movie is reportedly based on Mehra’s growing up years in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi.
Delhi 6 music is composed by A R Rahman and the lyrics are written by Prasoon Joshi. A R Rahman has recently made india very proud by winning the Golden Globe award, so there is lot of expectation from the album. The album comes up with 10 soundtracks with nice variations in each and every track.
“Aarti(Tumre Bhuvan Mein)” is the first track from the album. When you give this song a first listen it reminds of you fleetingly of “O Paalanhare” from Lagaan, but this song builds an amazing spiritual aura around you breaking out which is nearly impossible. The lyrics are not that easy to grasp at the first instance, but when you listen to it again you will understand the feeling of the song. The music is quite simple but the background effects provided by the chorus took the song to another higher level. Ome may not be inclined to this song because its a prayer but if u listen to “Ik Onkar” again n again then this one will not be overlooked.
“Arziyan” is again a track that centres around a prayer. Javed Ali has yet gaian created a magic with A R Rahman. His vocals are just amazing, flawless and lyrics of this song are really good. Kailash Kher also makes his presence felt in this song. The music is quite variable and weaves in out of simplicity and complexity. Read more
Music Review – Billu Barber
Billu Barber is the next home production(Red Chillies Entertainment) of Shahrukh Khan. And for the first time Shahrukh is teamed up with Priyadarshan. Priyadarshan is famous for his comedy releases and this time he has come up with a remake of malyalam film ‘Kadha Parayumbol‘. The basic premise of the story is all about friendship – that too a rare one, between a village barber and the reigning super star. So lot to expect form both Priyadarshan and Shahrukh Khan.
Billu Barber is the first album in the year 2009 and that too from Shahrukh Khan so the expectations are on a higher side. The album kicks off with a whooping 15 tracks composed by Pritam and lyrics by Gulzar.
‘Marjaani‘ the first song from the album starts off at very high notes and then transit into completely filmi track. Sukhwinder’s vocals are just awesome in the track alongwith Sunidhi Chauhan and the chorus is good too. The lyrics are little difficult to understand when you listen the first time but while you listen it again n again you will get into the mood of the song. Techno effects in the song makes the song very catchy with a nice groove. On the whole the music is simple but the sample beats in this track which we have heard in previous films completely suits here.
The beginning of the song ‘Love Mera Hit Hit‘ sounds more like a complete western pop track. Neeraj’s voice has been completely covered with effects. Lyrics are not that great and luckily they are not written by Gulzar. Ashish Pandit and Mayur Puri has written the lyrics and we must say they haven’t done their homework well. The Female vocals by Tulsi Kumar are quite refreshing and also perfect for the track. This track is again quite simple but clearly samples have been lift off from western music. The english voice-over are completely unnecessary but its like a trend in bollywood music these to add anywhere they find a empty place. This is quite depressing as they donno what the lyrics mean and they just put generic used english word/phrases. Read more
Music Review – Luck By Chance
Luck By Chance starts the directorial career of Farhan Akhtar’s sister Zoya Akhtar. She wants everything to be in the right place with her first movie. So lets start from the music of the movie Luck By Chance. The promos are out on the small screen and they seems to be very interesting and something different. The first promo song is also out on the small screen and the song really promises some great music from the first movie of Zoya Akhtar.
Luck by Chance music is composed by Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa and the lyrics are written by Javed Akhtar. So with these names you must be expecting a lot. Rock On!! the earlier release this year is a global hit album of the year so there is lot to expect from these people.
‘Ye Zindagi Bhi‘ is the first track from the album composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and lyrics by Javed Akhtar. A very captivating aspect of the song is the singing by Loy Mendonsa & Shekhar Ravjiani. The song has a bassy start accompanied with great lyrics and unusual composition. The pace is slow and holding upto the mark. The negative point in the song is the same music is played throughout the song in a loop but it has a great potential.
‘Bawre‘ is the second track from the album composed by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy and Lyrics by Javed Akhtar. The song starts with the classical touch which is quite refreshing. Read more
Music review – Haal-E-Dil
Tadka spice – Haal-E-Dil is creating waves on the small screen with it’s music, and it’s got quite a great score for a movie starring all newcomers!
So you think Bollywood newcomers never had it so good? You are right! Haal-E-Dil’s music has been creating waves from television promos for quite some days now and it’s time now to put on your glasses and introspect the score which seems all set to create ripples on charts!
Haal-E-Dil’s title track ‘Haal-E-Dil‘ is a lovely number composed by Vishal Bhardwaj (wow!) with lyrics by Munna Dhiman, and a very captivating aspect of the song is the singing by the duo Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghoshal. The song is mesmerising, with a tone of longing and craving in love lending it a beautiful aura. Vishal Bhardwaj proves that he is as much a great director as a music composer. The use of sounds is quite fresh in ‘Haal-E-Dil‘.
Anand Raaj Anand teams up with lyricist Sameer to come up with a song which will hit you with Sonu Nigam’s ultra-cool vocals, in the song ‘Jeeta Hoon‘. The song has female voice by Pamela Jain, but it isn’t as much high on either lyrics or music, as it is on Sonu Nigam’s voice which just doesn’t let your attention go away, and that makes ‘Jeeta Hoon‘ a good track, if not a great one!
And here’s the best song of Read more
Music Review – Khushboo

All right folks! This might be coming a bit late, but better late than never, ain’t it! If you don’t care to read the whole review, let’s just give it to you in one word: refreshing, but since we have worked hard (yeah right!) on this, please do read it na! The lyrics are by Javed Akhtar and needless to say, they are well-written.
Well, The album kicks off with the refreshingly sweet ‘Kyun Hai Mujhe Lagta‘, sung by composer Adnan Sami and Shreya Ghoshal, and we must say that they have done a fab job in here! The music just grows on you, and you wish that ‘Kyun Hai Mujhe Lagta‘ would never end (just like it’s last one minute, which goes on and on). Never mind, if you are left feeling “Kyun Hai Mujhe Lagta, ke ye gaana kuch zyada hi sweet hai”, then Adnan Sami is at fault! Haha!
Warning: Please don’t blame us if you are forced to put on your dancing shoes after you listen to ‘Dil Ye Kahe‘ from Khushboo. The second song is arguably the best song of Read more

Variety is the spice of life, and the movie Sunday too. The movie’s music score is a concoction of six composers, all of whom have enthralled the listeners many times in the past. The album kicks off with the mint fresh title song ‘Missing Sunday‘. Sung by Mahua Kamat, Suraj, Earl Edgar, with lyrics by Farhad Sajid, the song is a nice track to listen to, but the lyrics are specific to the movie’s theme and that’s why the listeners will have to wait till they see the movie to truly get the meaning of the english lines. The music of this song is given by Sandeep Chowta.
The second track of the album ‘Pyar to hona hi tha‘ has music by Pakistani band Suroor’s members M.Ali and Kami, and they have given a beautiful touch to the song, not to forget the very enjoyable guitar strings that take off the song. The song has been sung by Kamran Bari and Mohammad Ali, with lyrics by Kamran Bari. But the beauty of the song lies in the fact that Read more
Music review – Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal

When you have music director as Pritam and lyricist Javed Akhtar, you are certain that the music of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal is something to watch out for. And rightly so, it manages to score some goals itself.
The whole feel to the album is fast paced, and fresh with suitably done lyrics for each situation, and almost all of the songs are neatly done, without going overboard with the treatment. Anand Raj Anand and Richa Sharma rev it up in ‘Billo Rani‘ which has this whole ‘made for bollywood’ aura hovering above it. The lyrics playfully move along and the interludes are finely etched in the song. This party track almost takes you to the 90s when hindi songs were done with the ‘qawwali’ touch. Neeraj Shridhar sings so well in ‘Ishq ka kalma‘ that you would like to listen to this song again and again. It is definitely that one song which Read more
