Movie Review - Drona

Goldie Bhel who cast Abhishek Bachchan in his last movie “Bas itna sa khab hai” is back again after a long gap with Abhishek again. The producer spends lots of money in making this film big - big star cast, big canvas, big expenditure, big promotion, big sets, big expectations but movie turns out into big disappointment. The three writers of this movie comes with a disappointing screenplay. This film is a superhero based film. Abhishek Bachchan played the title superhero role Drona with Priyanka Chopra as his bodygaurd. The movie is filled with good sets and visuals but not good with its storyline.

Abhishek Bachchan was orphan aditya who never got love and care in his childhood. He actually happens to be descendent of a royal family who are entitled to safegaurd Amrit from demons. Sonia(priyanka chopra) reveals aditya his real identity of Drona as gaurdian of amrit. So in first part of film abhishek is getting himself realise who he is, and in second half he realises who he is, and then towards the end he do what he is suppose to do in movie, Read more

Movie Review - Kidnap

This movie will steal a little bit of limelight because of several reasons.Firstly Imran khan is already popular for his cute looks and acting in his debut movie jaane tu ya janne na. Manisha lamba’s sexy looks(of course i m talking about the bikini scene). Sanjay dutt is coming after a long time in this movie and the director sanjay gandhvi who is already popular for creating a movie dhoom so public will expect a dhoom from this movie also. But does this all is sufficient to make this movie successful? Unfortunately Kidnap falls short of expectations.

This movie is all about the game played by the kidnnaper Kabir(Imran khan). This is a story about revenge of a boy from a man. So you can say that movie is closer to the story of ZINDA .But this kidnap is not as grisly as ZINDA’S kidnap. Just after a first scene (Item number) of Sonia (Manisha lamba), she is kidnapped in second scene of the movie (itni jaldi kya thi bhai?). Read more

Movie review - Rock On

Tadka spice - Now that you must have already learnt that the movie is the next big hit of this year, we’d rather have you lining up at the Box Office than reading this review, but just in case…

Farhan Akhtar disappoints once again! Yes, the critics would have loved to run him down but Rock On is gonna put a big rock into those very critics’ mouths to shut them up, who said that he had lost his sheen after Dil Chahta Hai. Rock On is as much about the new age Bollywood which not just shows how agood script can turn the tables at the BO but also set a new benchmark, as it is about Bollywood itself, which fails to find successes in the first half of each year, yet bounces back in the second half like a phoenix. Farhan Akhtar has done it, yet again!!!

Don’t we all know already that movie is about a rock band and their trials and tribulations? So, let’s spare the crap and focus on why exactly the movie rocks! Farhan Akhtar, not just croons, acts and directs, but also spreads the ’superb performance virus’ as one would like to call it to the likes of Arjun Rampal and Prachi Desai. Yeah! Arjun Rampal will knock you over with Rock On, it is as much his film as is Farhan’s himself. And that ultra-senti bahu Prachi Desai has made the perfect debut seemingly with this movie. She must thank Farhan Akhtar for this from her heart (spare us the 10 handkercheif sobbing drama Prachi when you read this :P).

Luke Kenny, who till now was the most ‘authentic’ looking rockstar from the fab four in Rock On will not just win your heart with his performance Read more

Movie review - Aamir

Tadka question - Rajeev Khandelwal, the nation’s heartthrob didn’t disappoint you on tv, but what about his big screen foray Aamir? Find out all the answers and more below!

The song ‘Ha Raham‘ from the movie Aamir has a beautiful line ‘Mehfuz har kadam karna aye Khuda‘, and seems like God himself was watching over Rajeev Khadelwal’s debut all this while because even thought it is as much about Khuda’s people on earth, Aamir comes across as a totally hatke film which engrosses you, as well as entertains you. And another way to look at the Raham of Khuda could be that the Hindi Film Industry has got two potential blockbusters this week, with both Aamir and Sarkar Raj earning rave review!

Picture this - A Jaipur lad makes it big on tv, moves to movies yet debuts on the same day when another director with a glorious past and three of India’s biggest superstars come clashing with their movie Sarkar Raj. To top it all, his debut doesn’t have any romance and any songs and not even a leading lady! Kaise phir?…How the hell does director Rajkumar Gupta decide to release the movie alongside the Bachchan family show on the bada purdah, the big screen? That’s because Aamir is simply good cinema, which doesn’t need any crutches or fancywork!

It is the story of a doctor, Aamir Ali who comes to Mumbai from phoren one day, and as soon as he Read more

Movie review - Sarkar Raj

Tadka spice - It couldn’t get better than this for Ram Gopal Verma and the three Bachchans! Sarkar Raj is a winner from the word go!

Jai Maharashtra…!!! No, no, Paresh Rawal doesn’t go around parading as Shivaji in Sarkar Raj folks. This is the slogan of a family who work for the benefit of their people and yet are on the wrong side of the law at times.

Bhaiyon aur behnon, Sarkar Raj pesh karte hain, ek baar phir, Nagre family, masala maar ke (re: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). Ram Gopal Verma is back in business, and thankfully for him he has been able to not just cast a coup of sorts, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (oooh! she’s fiery in this one), but he also manages to get such great scenes out of them that you’ll be chanting while coming out of the halls: Ram-u naam Satya ka hai! Meaning - Ram Gopal Verma is at his best again, underworld, Mumbai and people, something he started with movies like Satya

…and quite well at that! This time, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starts it all (fasaad ki jadd!) As an NRI businesswoman, she comes into amchi Mumbai looking for only profits, and gets the able support of the Nagre clout. But hamare Abhi-shake bhaiya! How can he not think beyond profits? It’s his people na, and the reigns of the Sarkar Raj are in his hands too because Pa is a little old right now! And then come the dushmans, the enemies of this family who provoke people against the project in order to Read more

Movie review - Woodstock Villa

Tadka spice - Sikander Kher has got the perfect launch vehicle for himself in Woodstock Villa. Read on to find out why!

Mean is in! Big time! If last year saw Neil Nitin Mukesh playing the role of Johnny Gaddaar effortlessly, this time it is Sikander Kher who has gone all out in this ‘trust-can-go-take-a-plunge’ thriller Woodstock Villa. With the dark and sepia toned Mumbai city as the perfect backdrop of it’s equally dark minded lead characters, the brilliant cinematography and camerawork just brings out the perfect shots for Woodstock Villa, and that just increases your interest in this movie directed by Hansal mehta.

It’s the story of wife who plots her own abduction, in order to test her husband’s loyalties. As a wife, Neha Uberoi is a convincing actress who can make it in the industry, thanx to a role which lets her do a lot more than conventional debuts by other female newcomers. But the star of the film is Sikander Kher. All right, you might have been misled by those promos on your boob-tube, but he is surely gonna make it big in Bollywood with just the right roles. And Arbaaz Khan has kind of mastered the art of playing Read more

Movie review - U, Me Aur Hum

Tadka spice - The verdict is out and you have got more reasons to watch this one, than for missing it!

Ajay Devgan gets behind the camera, and the world waits to watch what he has got in store for us. Amidst all the hype sorrounding U, Me Aur Hum, the audience is more than willing to watch the magic of Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha pair again, after a looong time. Kajol is back on screen with her husband, and there is nothing that should have gone wrong with the movie, yet it does. But the finely crafted second half of U, Me Aur Hum manages to make up for it all.

Ajay Devgan’s directorial debut U, Me Aur Hum has got a striking relation to Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par. While Aamir’s Taare Zameen Par made dyslexia awareness it’s focal point, Ajay’s U, Me Aur Hum is a nice take on Alzheimer’s disease, which Kajol’s character suffers from in the movie. The first half is all about wooing stuff and mushy romance on the high seas, but lacks magnetism. It’s only when Ajay manages to throw away the rose tinted glasses, that the reality strikes!

And how! He manages to put up a Read more

Movie review - Shaurya

Tadka question - Have you been really waiting for one introspective take on the men who gaurd us? If yes, Shaurya is the answer .. and the best one!

What’s with great movies and bad promotion? Coz Samar Khan’s Shaurya might not have caught your eye while watching television, but in case you go an watch this movie, which you must, it will surely catch your imagination. Samar Khan’s Shaurya is a refreshingly fresh take on the lives of a few good men, who protect the country. It delves deep into the lives of a handful of characters who are from the Indian military, and throws up a finely crafted movie.

Shaurya is the story of a few characters, one of them being Rahul Bose, who is an escapist. And when he discovers the valour one fine day, he is left in a motley of tarred emotions and personalities alike. Rahul Bose, is as expected, in a great performance and once again proves his mettle. Then we have Minissha Lamba, who plays a journalist, who fights the question of truth wherever she goes, and poses a threat to the hollow moralities of those around her. Minissha does well, but you wish you could see more of her.

The courtmartial drama is the story of Read more

Movie review - Race

Tadka spice - The Abbas-Mustaan brothares are back this time, but with lots more than you expected!

You might wanna race to finish reading this movie review, coz there’s definitely gonna be a race for the movie tickets of Race! Too quick, complex or stylish? That’s exactly Abbas-Mustaan’s Race for you. In a long time comes a movie which won’t let you use the cliche ‘all style and no substance’, coz Race is style and substance combined almost perfectly. Welcome to a potential blockbuster in process!

What works for Race is the racy plot, the direction, the acting, the music too but most of all it is the slick twists and turns that make your entertainment a full paisa vasool. The screenplay is great, the pace is in keeping with the movie’s name and the the trio Akshaye Khanna, Bipashs Basu and Saif Ali Khan are pure fun to watch. Of course there’s Katrina Kaif too, but without much to deliver other than being just a pretty face. Anil Kapoor is good as always and Sameera Reddy also manages to show some talent.

Jodhaa Akbar opens to great response

Ashutosh Gowariker’s magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar has opened to great response across the nation, barring Rajasthan, where the protest by the Raput community has forced the distributors from releasing the film. The movie has got good response majorly, and has been criticised on only one account: it’s length. The movie has two intervals and is three hours and twenty minutes long. Many viewers expressed interest for a second screening as well, despite it being a long and simple love story.

Jodhaa Akbar, starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai amongst others, opened amidst widespread excitement for various reasons, including the return of Hrithik Roshan to the big screen after a gap of more than thirteen months, and the re-pairing of Aishwarya Rai with Hrithik Roshan after Dhoom:2. Hrithik Roshan has stated time and again that Aishwarya Rai is his favourite co-star.

To add to the charms of the movie, it has music by A R Rahman, and lyrics by Javed Akhtar. The team of A R Rahman, Javed Akhtar and Ashutosh Gowariker came together for the third time with Jodhaa Akbar, after having worked on Read more

Movie review - Jodhaa Akbar

Tadka spice - It could just have been another movie review, but for once we won’t concentrate on the storyline, as Jodhaa Akbar goes beyond, much beyond. We give you to the point answer to the question: why should one watch Jodhaa Akbar?

Watch it for Hrithik Roshan. The ace of aces, returns to the screen post Dhoom:2, in an avatar so capturing which affirms once again the fact that if there is anyone who can ever pose a challenge to Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan, it’s him. As Akbar, the great emperor, he is perfection personified. Be it the anger in his eyes on being betrayed, or his flirtatious voice urging his love to follow him. Be it the ruler who goes amidst his public to understand their woes, or the thinker who treats each religion with respect. Be it the fighter who believes in trying everything before he resorts to bloodshed, or the merciless punisher with a heart torn apart. Just one verdict rules: as Akbar, and as the perfect actor, Hrithik rules. Period.

Watch it for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Little would one have guessed, that when she played the ambassador of India on foreign shores a couple of years back, she would go on the play the role of Mallika-e-Hindustaan Jodhaa, the fiery warrior princess with such e`lan. If there is anyone who can put to shame other actresses for playing bimbettes and basking in the glory of hits which have little to do with their roles, it’s Aishwarya. As Jodhaa. the intelligent, go getter, sword-wielding and clear headed princess, she gives Hrithik Read more
