Paathshala - Ahmed Khan’s Next! Starring Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia & Nana Patekar
Ahmed Khan is all set for his next venture to come. After failing to create the magic on Box Office from his previous movies Lakeer and Fool N Final, the Choroegrapher-Director has come up with Paathshala. With this new venture he has turned as a producer also. Paathshala is being produced by his wife Shaira Khan. Paathshala, as the name suggests, revolves around kids, and is set in a school campus. Patshaala stars Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia, Nana Patekar, Sunil Shetty with some child artists.
Ahmed isn’t directing the film, instead, he has entrusted the directorial reins to Milind Uke. The kids finalized for the key roles are Swini [Cheeni Kum], Ali [Fanaa, Ta Ra Rum Pum] and Dwij [Nanhe Jaisalmer], besides several child actors. The promos of the movie are out and yes they are interesting to watch. Promos may recall the days when we were kids and all the fun and enjoyment that we have done on our childhood. The promo has some lines like “a walk down the memory lane” , “we bring back the school spirit”, “if its about our future every question must be answered”. Read more
Are the Bachchans losing it?
Tadka question - with mixed reports about the success and the flak that Bachchans’ Unforgettable Tour has recieved, is it time to say that they no longer are the most powerful of the lot? Read on…
The last leg of the Bachchans‘ Unforgettable Tour in Rotterdam and Oberhausen has been cancelled, and this is not the first time that a part of the much hyped tour has been recinded, with similar fate at other cities like Vancouver having already been witnessed. Amitabh Bachchan, the vangaurd of the family tour, along with son Abhishek Bachchan and Daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and wife Jaya Bachchan has been on a denial mode about their tour not recieving the kind of success it expected, but every now and then the media has been reporting the grim side of it all.
So much so, that the fab four had to rope in Akshay Kumar and Madhuri Dixit herself in between. Riteish Deshmukh and Preity Zinta were already accompanying them along with Vishal-Shekhar, the musical duo. But every time, allegations of highly priced tickets leading to far less the number of viewers has cropped up. With Shah Rukh Khan’s Temptations tour going to start in a short span of time, reports suggest that it would be far better than the Unforgettable one as the tickets of SRK’s tour have been priced far less in comparison, and his entourage will boast of a much more diverse and successful stardust, including Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif amongst others.
All this while, the Bachchans didn’t have Read more
Movie review - Rock On
Tadka spice - Now that you must have already learnt that the movie is the next big hit of this year, we’d rather have you lining up at the Box Office than reading this review, but just in case…
Farhan Akhtar disappoints once again! Yes, the critics would have loved to run him down but Rock On is gonna put a big rock into those very critics’ mouths to shut them up, who said that he had lost his sheen after Dil Chahta Hai. Rock On is as much about the new age Bollywood which not just shows how agood script can turn the tables at the BO but also set a new benchmark, as it is about Bollywood itself, which fails to find successes in the first half of each year, yet bounces back in the second half like a phoenix. Farhan Akhtar has done it, yet again!!!
Don’t we all know already that movie is about a rock band and their trials and tribulations? So, let’s spare the crap and focus on why exactly the movie rocks! Farhan Akhtar, not just croons, acts and directs, but also spreads the ’superb performance virus’ as one would like to call it to the likes of Arjun Rampal and Prachi Desai. Yeah! Arjun Rampal will knock you over with Rock On, it is as much his film as is Farhan’s himself. And that ultra-senti bahu Prachi Desai has made the perfect debut seemingly with this movie. She must thank Farhan Akhtar for this from her heart (spare us the 10 handkercheif sobbing drama Prachi when you read this :P).
Luke Kenny, who till now was the most ‘authentic’ looking rockstar from the fab four in Rock On will not just win your heart with his performance Read more
Aamir Khan’s good wishes are with Harman Baweja
Tadka spice - With both Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na dn Love Story 2050 releasing this Friday, the race is already on, yet Aamir Khan wishes well to Harman Baweja too.
Aamir Khan was recently seen talking to media persons regarding the release of his nephew Imran Khan’s debut movie Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, clashing with the gigantic budget movie Love Story 2050, which marks the debut of producer/director Harry Baweja’s son Harman Baweja. And it was nice to see that even though Aamir Khan didn’t postpone the release of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na on request from good friend Harry Baweja, Aamir wished good luck to both the movies, and said that he hoped Harman Baweja makes a mark too.
Aamir Khan cited to the media persons various examples from the past when two movies released on the same day had gone on to do big business, like Gadar and Lagaan, Welcome and Taare Zameen Par etc. He said that a movie’s release date has nothing much to do with it’s success, and a film would work only if the script was good and the execution was appropriate. Harry Baweja’s fears aren’t exactly unfounded as Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na has been garnering more attraction by the cine-goers, due to it’s more youthful appeal, while Love Story 2050 having some of the best special effects seen so far in any Indian movie seems to have lagged behind. Sarkar Raj, intentionally termed bad, goes on to do superhit business!
Tadka spice - It couldn’t have been better for Ram Gopal Varma, after all the media played games with his Sarkar Raj!
If you still believe that Sarkar Raj is a commercial/critical flop, we suggest you go and wash your eyes in the basin! Ram Gopal Varma’s casting coup consisting of Amitabh Bachchan - Abhishek Bachchan -Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has gone on to throw mud in the face of those who tried to intentionally run down the movie’s credentials as a success, both critical and commercial. So much so, that the movie not only recovered it’s due amount in unexpected centres, but also went on a business making spree across the globe!
Sarkar Raj made ignificant inroads in garnering collection in centres where it was expected to do bad and where distributors themselves were sceptical of the movie’s success, proposing Sarkar Raj as yet another Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag. Sarkar Raj, which wasn’t expected to do well in eastern Punjab tarde circles, not only recovered it’s cost in the first week itself, but also proved to go well beyond that and do brisk business. Sarkar Raj also stopped short of breaking into the US top ten slot! So much for a movie which was ripped apart intentionally.
Sarkar Raj has been declared a hit officially, with it’s business raking in Read more
Haal-E-Dil promos strike the right chord with the audiences!
Tadka spice - Haal-E-Dil’s current promotional campaigns have hit the right spot, but there’s more to the movie than it seems!
The current promotions of Anil Devgan directed and Kumar Mangat produced Haal-E-Dil, which run up to a length of about a minute have become a rage, thanks to the slick editing of the shots and the gentle touch to the scenes telecast on the small screen. Close-ups of of all the three new faces who are stepping into Bollywood with Haal-E-Dil are targetting the right audiences and gaining all the desired and due atention. The movie stars Kumar Mangat’s daughter Amita, Shekhar Suman’s son Adhyayan and a very popular face in Indian commercials, Nakuul Mehta.
In fact, Haal-E-Dil’s music, which seemed to be the most striking feature of this movie has got competition now. Not by the anything secondary but by the very things which will draw a lot of crowds expectedly: the beautiful shots, the cinematography (re: camerawork) and the emotional scenes which have become Haal-E-Dil’s promos’ high point. No one expected that a film starring three fresh faces would be setting a benchmark of it’s own in the way films are promoted on the small screen, especially in the times of producers lining up grandiose trailers in the theatres, and not much on the television.

Why Hrithik’s Junoon scores above all…
Tadka spice - The media has been writing about the low TRPs of Junoon, which has Hrithik Roshan as it’s brand ambassador, forgetting that the show is above all a tribute to music and not greed.
Picture this: Salman Khan’s Dus Ka Dum is leading the TRPs these days, of course with the prize money to the tune of 10 crores being offered, followed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? And amidts all this we get to hear that Hrithik Roshan promoting Junoon… Kuch Kar Dikhane Ka, aired on NDTV imagine, is the lowest in terms of TRPs in the shows thriving on star power. The media couldn’t have been more wrong in mixing the respect for music - the soul of life, to a trait of humans known simply as greed.
While Shah Rukh Khan’s Paanchvi Pass… and Salman Khan’s Dus Ka Dum have been grabbing eyeballs majorly because of the fact that they have two of the most prominent film stars leading the shows, besides of course the astronomical amount of money being offered, the media completely forgot two points: Hrithik Roshan’s promotion for Junoon whichis all about music, shouldn’t have been put in the same league as the other two, which focus entirely on filling up the coffers of ever so money minded humans.
And secondly, Hrithik Roshan, unlike Read more

Ugly Aur Pagli - get ready to roll in the aisles!
Tadka question - Pyaar Ke Side Effects made it big time on the Box Office, but will the makers be able to charm us the same way with Ugly Aur Pagli?
“She knows how to love… She knows how to be gentle… But she doesn;t know where to stop!”
“This summer, the makers of Pyaar Ke Side Effects, re-introduces, Love, The wicked style, 99 slaps, 1 kiss”
Well, so goes the napshot promotional teaser of Ugly Aur Pagli, starring Pyaar Ke Side Effects gal Mallika Sherawat and the guy who has got ‘cranky’ as his middle name, Ranvir Shorey. And from the looks of it, the makers of PKSE are back with another treat of a show.
The teaser of Ugly Aur Pagli starts off all lovey-dovey with the focus on Mallika Sherawat’s character, that is when poor Ranvir Shorey is shown sitting at a restaurant/bar where she knocks her head dwon heavily on the table and there are empty vodka shots lying around. Ranvir Shorey’s character has been shown as a desperate one, often at the recieving end of Mallika’s fury. The ‘wicked’ style love has been shown quite well with devil horns and a devil tail which are seen in the teaser.
The packaging is slick, not intended to bore you any moment. Mallika looks hot as usual, but this time she looks a lot more stylish than ever before, while Ranvir is Read more
Shahid Kapoor’s Kismat Konnection has everyone hooked
Tadka question - Do you find yourself addicted to Kismat Konnection’s latest promo featuring Shahid’s dance moves? Well, welcome to the ever-growing club!
Kismat Konnection’s first promotional song video has hit the small screens, and it has got the nation konnecting itself with the moves of Shahid Kapoor and music by Pritam! ‘Kismat konnection ho jaye‘ has been setting the television screens ablze with the fiery combination of Pritam’s music, Shabbir Ahmed’s lyrics and choreography by Ahmed Khan. But what has beaten all this itself is the moves by Shahid Kapoor and a very sexy galm image of Vidya Balan, far better than her Heyy Babyy days!
Kismat Konnection’s (virtually) trademark had caught on big time with the viewers. Though to some of them it might have sounded like a peepni, but the fact remains that the tunes were catchy. And the way they have been used in the promo featuring the song, Pritam’s efforts seem to have paid off quite well. The song has caught on with the listeners like wild fire and the shots are very sexy too, with interesting angles in the video. But all thanks go to the performer Shahid. As once a part of Shiamak Davar’s troupe, this boy has come a long way.

Three releases this Friday- which one will you go for?
Tadka question - Khushboo, Summer 2007 and Mere Baap Pehle Aap: which appeals you enough to go to the theatre near you?
Come June 13, and three releases are going to hit the movie halls. With Khushboo, Summer 2007 and Mere Baap Pehle Aap, all hitting the theatres this Friday, the cine-goers seem to be too badly spoilt for choice, what with Sarkar Raj and Aamir having already gained immense critical acclaim and great beginnings, and Jannat still trying to create a heaven for itself at the Box Office. Phew! What are the Tadka readers gonna do now? Well, here’s help.
Mere Baap Pehle Aap would clearly come out to be the top choice in case you wanna go in for the tried and tested. Priyadarshan is at the helm of affairs and this man can strictly make you laugh as well as think about the turmoils his movie plots unfold on the big screen. The prospects get even better with Akshaye Khanna and Paresh Rawal trying to tickle your funny bone, with able help for Genelia, who has made a sorta comeback to Hindi cinema after ruling the South. No brownie points for guessing that the treat gets even better with Archana Puran Singh, and Om Puri, whom the audiences have been dying to see on screen, though the promos seemingly have been kept low and a rushed affair.
In case romance takes over your moods, pyaar ki Khusboo haazir hai janaab! This Pahlaj Nihalani direction, starring newcomers Avantikka and Rishi Rehan has got loads to pull you Read more
