The Bombay HC has found Shah Rukh Khan and his team behind the mega-budget RA.One, prima facie guilty of copyright violation, and asked it to deposit 1 Crore rupees within 1 day, if it wants the movie’s scheduled release to go ahead as planned.

“The defendants Shah Rukh Khan, Red Chillies Entertainment and Eros Entertainment, are directed to deposti a sum of Rs one crore as pay-order to the court and then release the movie”, the division bench said. The petition had been filed by Yash Patnaik, who insists that the original copyright of the concept and the content of RA.One lay with him. He claims to have discussed the concept with the movie’s writer Mushtaq Sheikh in 2006.

The bench also said that “it is an most unfortunate part of the film industry that people use others’ concepts and then don’t want to pay or give them credit”. The final decision is still pending by the court and further arguments would be heard in due course of time.
