So Ganesh Hegde’s new music video ‘Let’s Party’ has been shown for the past few days on many music channels. There’s Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan in the video, there’s the performer himself with some cool moves, and then there’s a question which you are forced to ponder over quite as soon as the song rushes past the half length of the video: Where’s the magic of ‘Main Deewana’, the video which made him a household name?
‘Main Deewana’ is probably the first thing which comes to anyone’s mind on the mention of Ganesh Hegde. The sets, the girl in the video, the music, the amazing moves, the costumes, the split-second shots, the fusion choreography and the whole execution of that song in the video was as perfect as could be. So much so, that even after a few years, the song remains etched in our minds, synonymous with the man’s name, who has many achievements to his name.
Compare it to the latest music video “Let’s Party”. The costumes are off-putting; what’s with the red and yellow pants G? The Mohawk ‘flames’ kinda ruin it, specially when G dons long tresses in the same video. Besides, one really miss the direction of ‘Main Deewana’, which accentuated the awesome moves by G. Katrina looks fab, but Hrithik’s under eyes were better kept covered throughout, rather than making him take off those shades and reveal a weird face! And what’s with the song getting fast paced without a build up? A party song needed to be fast paced, yet this one begins slow, and just when you start getting used to it, the tempo is hastened and it seems shoddy. Please Ganesh Hegde, bring back your old team! Specially, coz the origiinal and the remixed versions of ‘Main Deewana’ were so watchable and so good.
