Aarakshan is yet another movie by the ace director Prakash Jha, which tackles the very risky issue of reservation in Indian institutions. Risky, because the director’s opinion on the issue is bound to unsettle at east a handful of people, as it has in the past, though this time the chances are the greatest. India’s obese overpopulation hs led to votebank politics and reservations for castes etc. has led to many a battles fought, yet we have been unable to do away with the system, as was planned upon the introduction. The movie stars some very bankable stars like AAmitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Manoj Bajpayee, Deepika Padukone, Prateik Babbar, Shabana Azmi, Hema Malini along with Mukesh Tiwari, Yashpal Sharma, Saurabh Shukla among others. Though we can hardly expect any revolutionary outcomes from the movie, given the entire Indian gamut, one may never know what serious questions it may pose. The film was also in some controversy as few dimwits didn’t like a royal in real life, Saif Ali Khan, playing the role of a ‘low caste’ in the movie (didn’t you know such shit would happen?).
