Delhi 6 is the next big project of Rakeysh OmPrakash Mehra after the huge sucess of ‘Rang De Basanti‘. The movie stars Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Waheeda Rahman, Om Puri, Rishi Kapoor in the lead role and many other supporting the story. The music of the film is given by A R Rahman and lyrics are written by Prasoon Joshi.
Delhi 6 is a story of young American Boy, Roshan(Abhishek Bachchan) of Indian origin who comes to India for the first time, to drop his ailing grandmother. She wants to spent her last days of her life in her home land, dissolving into the soil she was born in. Roshan who has spent all his life in western culture is not familiar with the Indian cultures, the sites and smells, religion and belief, this huge melting pot that India is. He thought that dadi (Waheeda Rahman) had left everyone in America and come back here only to realise him that he was wrong. Amidst all this he meets the beautiful and charming Bittu (Sonam Kapoor), who is looking for identity. She wants to break free from this typical indian culture and fly high to explore things. It is to this beautiful girl Roshan is destined to lose his heart.
The story is told against the ancient walled city of Delhi which is a character in herself. The movie, however, is not shot in Chandni Chowk. An elaborate set recreating the walled city was erected at Sambhar on the outskirts of Jaipur in Rajasthan. Most of the film is shot there. Only a few portions were shot in Delhi. The story of Delhi 6 is written by Rakeysh Mehra and Kamlesh Pandey. The costumes are by Arjun Bhasin and choreography is by Saroj Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant.
The film is all set to be released on 20 Feb, 2009.
