India is getting closer to the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which are as big as the Oscars in Hollywood. This event will be broadcaster in over 150 countries around the globe. UTV World Movies channel has got the exclusive live satellite rights for India for the next 3 consecutive years. This is the first time any Indian Channel has grabbed rights for such a big international event, amidst stiff competition from established international players.
This time the awards are even more special for the India because Slumdog Millionaire has been nominated. The movie has four nominations – Best Motion Picture, Danny Boyle for Best Director, A R Rahman for Best Original Score and Simon Beaufoy for Best Screenplay.
The lead actor Anil Kapoor is thrilled with the response of his movie around the globe. “Indian cinema is making its presence felt in the global market. At the same time, it’s opening up to global cinema beyond just Hollywood,” he says. “Great movies are finding more acceptability among Indian audiences and we have to attribute their access to UTV World Movies, the first of its kind channel dedicating to great films from across the globe. I’m glad they are partnering with the Golden Globes this year, especially as we showcase the arrival of Indian cinema in the global marketplace,” says Anil.
Year 2008 has been a sucessful year for the UTV, Shantonu Aditya, Executive Director of UTV Global Broadcasting, says, “We are happy to begin 2009 like this — along with bagging the exclusive rights to telecast the 66th Annual Golden Globes, we also have a lot of action on Bindass with new shows like Reality Table, Bindass Honda Stunner and Dadagiri, as also premieres of the latest blockbusters on UTV Movies and more broadbased business news on UTVi.”
Watch the action live and exclusive on UTV World Movies Channel on January 12 at 6:30 am and then a repeat at 8 pm the same day.
