Music Review – Delhi 6

Delhi 6 is the forthcoming Bollywood film directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra starring Abhishek Bachchan , Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles. After immense success of Rang De Basanti, which was India’s official entry to the Oscars, he is back with a movie relating his own childhood memories. The movie is reportedly based on Mehra’s growing up years in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi.
Delhi 6 music is composed by A R Rahman and the lyrics are written by Prasoon Joshi. A R Rahman has recently made india very proud by winning the Golden Globe award, so there is lot of expectation from the album. The album comes up with 10 soundtracks with nice variations in each and every track.
“Aarti(Tumre Bhuvan Mein)” is the first track from the album. When you give this song a first listen it reminds of you fleetingly of “O Paalanhare” from Lagaan, but this song builds an amazing spiritual aura around you breaking out which is nearly impossible. The lyrics are not that easy to grasp at the first instance, but when you listen to it again you will understand the feeling of the song. The music is quite simple but the background effects provided by the chorus took the song to another higher level. Ome may not be inclined to this song because its a prayer but if u listen to “Ik Onkar” again n again then this one will not be overlooked.
“Arziyan” is again a track that centres around a prayer. Javed Ali has yet gaian created a magic with A R Rahman. His vocals are just amazing, flawless and lyrics of this song are really good. Kailash Kher also makes his presence felt in this song. The music is quite variable and weaves in out of simplicity and complexity.
“Bhor Bhaye” tracks kicks off with sound like a vintage song and suddenly transitions into contemporary classic track. Shreya Ghosal vocals are just amazing, there is no words to say about her vocals. The music mainly consist of tabla and a harmonium. The lyrics are bit complex because of the sanskrit words.
“Delhi 6” starts with very slow pace ans some corny lyrics and then suddenly booms into an amazing fast paced track. The track has some nice hip-hop beats and some foreign lyrics. The beats are just flawless and an amazing techno effect by A R Rahman. Blaaze, Benny Dayal, Vivinenne Pocha, Tanvi, Claire have done a superb job in the track with their vocals.
“Dil Gira Dafatan” is sung by Ash King and has done a superb job. Backing vocals by Chinmayee are good too. The base music is guitar but we also get complex transitions in and out of the track. The lyrics are good and the effects used to enhance the voice quality and its affect on the listener are good too .
“Gende Phool” has a simple filmy track music and there are people hooting in the background. Then, suddenly the music blends into hip-hop beats with quite funny lyrics. The vocals are meant to sound boring and singer did an amazing job portraying it.
“Hey Kaala Bandar” is again a western beats track with hilarious lyrics. The vocals are quite good and the lyrics are very interesting, they reflect the lives we human live. Just checkout the track to know what exactly i meant to say.
“Masakali” is the first promo song that’s being aired everywhere. The beginning of the song by Mohit Chauhan is just amazing. The song is sung as a message to the pigeon and Prasoon Joshi has done a wonderful job in this song. A R Rahman music is just flawless with amazing octave-toactave effect which easily makes one cry. Credit should be given to Mohit Chauhan for keeping up the rythm supperbly in the song. This song is a must listen track.
“Noor” is not a song but more like a shayari. Amitabh Bachchan vocals has just added a bonus in the album. There nothing much to say about the shayari, just listen and check it out.
“Rehna Tu” has a nice modern music touch, with subtle music and good beats. Rahman has completely proved himself the best by adding a distorted track of flute which was just amazing. A R Rahman, Benny Dayal, Tanvi have sung the song and lyrics are good too.
Delhi 6 soundtracks is complete mixture of fast , peppy and slow paced song. The soundtrack may not be a quick pick in the beginning but after a little time this will be huge hit of the year. The variations from A R Rahman are quite amazing in tracks like “Delhi-6″ , “Genda Phool” , “Masakalli” and Flawless lyrics in every track especially “Hey Kaale Bandar” , “Arziyan” , “Masakalli”. This soundtrack starts the blockbuster albums in the year 2009. Delhi 6 has great potentials , just go and grab your Audio CD’s.
