devarji samjha leve
sasural genda phool
choda babul ka angna
bhave dera piya ka ho!

saas gari deve
devarji samjha leve
sasural genda phool
sanya ched deva…

sanyan hain vyapari
chaley hain pardes
sooratiya niharoon
jiyara bhari hove
sasural genda phool

saas gari deve
devarji samjha leve
sasural genda phool
sainya ched deve
nanad chutki leve
sasural genda phool

chod babul ka angna
bhave dera piya ka ho!
bushirt pahinein khayike
beeda paan
poorey raipur se alag hai
sainyaji ki hai shaan
sasural genda phool

sainya ched deve
nanad chutki leve
sasural genda phool
saas gari deve
devarji samjha leve
sasural genda phool
choda babul ka angna
bhave dera piya ka ho!

From the lyricist: A traditional song very well mixed and extremely charming. the juxtaposition of a taditional folk music is so wonderfully brought out.

  17. saumya February 15, 2009 at 7:21 am - Reply

Haha. this song is great. i dont think its meant to be boring- its quite truthful i guess..
I think its called genda phool (marigold) because it has so many little petals- and its like confusing..
    (:

    hohohoi is funny

I liked this song but unable to understand what genda phool means in this song

  21. Dix Rox February 20, 2009 at 6:49 pm - Reply

Sasural the daughter in law’s home is probably compared to Genda, which is a flower yellow in colour and having small petals but no nectary essence,so sasural is attractive like genda but’s not actually good

This song is not penned by Prasoon Joshi. It is a famous folk song from Chhatishgarh.

I luvd the song Genda Phool but trust me the meaning is so difficult to understand that some times I think how to digest it…? ne ways the AR Rehamn’s music is tooooooooooo good and no compliants to whether it is inspired by Chattisgarh or else but it is remmebring the rich diversity we have…!

many people say Ringa Ringa is copied from Choli ke Peechey……crazzy people!

  33. Manish March 1, 2009 at 4:27 am - Reply

This is a old chattisgarhi folk song exceptionally presented by AR and team. However Prasoon Joshi should have given credit to original folk song lyrics writer.

its awesome man 222222222222222 sexy …………. lyrics r very truth

  35. JZ March 1, 2009 at 4:47 pm - Reply

Gets your facts before you complain. Neither prasoon joshi nor rehman have claimed any credit for the lyrics. Says contributed by Raghibir yadav (Mungerilal) who originally is from the chattisgarh MP region.

So i believe no ones claimed to have written this.
Genda phool is the king of flowers in chattisgarh so i think what the saong means is the womans happy at her in laws basically.

she says bhave dera piya ka.
which means i love my Piya’s home.

credit goes to artist from chattisgarh-Gangaram sahu
