Movie review – Rock On

Tadka spice - Now that you must have already learnt that the movie is the next big hit of this year, we’d rather have you lining up at the Box Office than reading this review, but just in case…

Farhan Akhtar disappoints once again! Yes, the critics would have loved to run him down but Rock On is gonna put a big rock into those very critics’ mouths to shut them up, who said that he had lost his sheen after Dil Chahta Hai. Rock On is as much about the new age Bollywood which not just shows how agood script can turn the tables at the BO but also set a new benchmark, as it is about Bollywood itself, which fails to find successes in the first half of each year, yet bounces back in the second half like a phoenix. Farhan Akhtar has done it, yet again!!!

Don’t we all know already that movie is about a rock band and their trials and tribulations? So, let’s spare the crap and focus on why exactly the movie rocks! Farhan Akhtar, not just croons, acts and directs, but also spreads the ’superb performance virus’ as one would like to call it to the likes of Arjun Rampal and Prachi Desai. Yeah! Arjun Rampal will knock you over with Rock On, it is as much his film as is Farhan’s himself. And that ultra-senti bahu Prachi Desai has made the perfect debut seemingly with this movie. She must thank Farhan Akhtar for this from her heart (spare us the 10 handkercheif sobbing drama Prachi when you read this :P ).

Luke Kenny, who till now was the most ‘authentic’ looking rockstar from the fab four in Rock On will not just win your heart with his performance, but also let you shed your inhibitions about ‘angrez’-looking performers from the Hindi Film Industry. Rock On rocks on exactly because of the fact that not just it tells you a great story, but also reaffirms one’s faith in the whole Bollywood thingy, with the usual naach-gaana and rona-dhona put aside, and subtle yet strong play of friendship, fun and faith in oneself rolled into one. Needless to say, Purab Kohli gives yet another stellar performance.

Why did you love Rang De Basanti? Coz Aamir gave as much screen space and mileage to the others as to himself. Similarly, Rock On gives one and all the chance to go ahead and prove their mettle. Be it the other two girls Koel and Shahana, or the music and the background score, everything seems to complement each other, even the spats and the humorous situations. When was the last time you did something you despised to get yourself out of a sticky situation? Of course, freinds must have helped you – precisely what we see in one of the most hilarious scenes of the movie where the rock band … why not check it out on the big screen for yourself? We don;t wanna spill any beans over here and spoil your fun of this wholesome entertainer. Bollywood Tadka doesn’t believe in giving away tadka pices like that, ha!

So, what are you waiting for? As if reading this entire review wasn’t enough, you want us to come and scream down your ears to go and watch this movie on the big screen? Move that bum, yaar! Rock On will rock you and the entire nation… it’s time for you to go ahead and learn something in a great way!!! Keep rocking;)

Just came back from the movie and I am going to be completely honest. After reading all these reviews, I was HIGHLY excited for the movie and looking forward to the story, the actors, the music, everything…

And to MOST extent I was not disappointed with the expectations. It was a simple movie told with emotions and feeling…

Now I said mostly because I am a person who forwards songs when watching a movie… especially the fast tracks that are unnecesssarily put to give the movie a boost…

So, when I had to watch Rock On I knew it was about music and expected it and they delievered some of the best music around but at times it seemed too much because a song ended and within a few minutes, they would add another song…

But other then the slow pace due to some songs, the movie was excellent! The acting superb. I loved them all.

Let me clear something: Prachi is there for a lot of the movie, she is always there as the backbone! She acted superbly!

The movie left me feeling happy, which I think is one of the best things a movie can do!
