Tadka question – with mixed reports about the success and the flak that Bachchans’ Unforgettable Tour has recieved, is it time to say that they no longer are the most powerful of the lot? Read on…
The last leg of the Bachchans‘ Unforgettable Tour in Rotterdam and Oberhausen has been cancelled, and this is not the first time that a part of the much hyped tour has been recinded, with similar fate at other cities like Vancouver having already been witnessed. Amitabh Bachchan, the vangaurd of the family tour, along with son Abhishek Bachchan and Daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and wife Jaya Bachchan has been on a denial mode about their tour not recieving the kind of success it expected, but every now and then the media has been reporting the grim side of it all.
So much so, that the fab four had to rope in Akshay Kumar and Madhuri Dixit herself in between. Riteish Deshmukh and Preity Zinta were already accompanying them along with Vishal-Shekhar, the musical duo. But every time, allegations of highly priced tickets leading to far less the number of viewers has cropped up. With Shah Rukh Khan‘s Temptations tour going to start in a short span of time, reports suggest that it would be far better than the Unforgettable one as the tickets of SRK‘s tour have been priced far less in comparison, and his entourage will boast of a much more diverse and successful stardust, including Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif amongst others.
All this while, the Bachchans didn’t have it as well as expected. With public memory having very short span these days, it’s hard to remind and convince people that three Bachchans starred in this year’s runaway hit Sarkar Raj, which earned as much as the prequel earned in total, in a span of 3 days! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan might have ended her contract with Nakshatra diamond jewellery only to be replaced by lissome lass Katrina Kaif, but she was the one who gave Bollywood it’s first blockbuster this year, along with Hrithik Roshan in Jodhaa Akbar. Abhishek Bachchan though hasn’t tasted much success post Guru, and so has been the case with Big B, who starred in numerous films yet failed to create magic until Sarkar Raj came along this year.
From being called the first family of Bollywood, to allegations of overpricing their tour tickets and the concert not running to full houses, followed by justifications by the stars themselves who are in denial mode, the Unforgettable Tour might not live upto it’s name, for the right reasons! That the family had to rely on somewhat faded stars like Preity Zinta and upoming Ritesh Deshmukh, and then rope in Madhuri Dixit and finally pack a punch only with the entry of Akshay Kumar, gives one an idea that they are no longer what they promised to be, when the most beautiful woman in the world tied the knot with Bollywood‘s most-wanted bachelor last year…
