Tadka spice – With movies from Yash Raj Films’ stable turning to no shows at the Box Office, Kunal Kohli’s Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic will be under intense pressure to perform.
Out of five releases in 2007, Yash Raj Films had just one massive hit in Shimit Amin‘s Chak De! India, and four flops, namely Ta Ra Rum Pum, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, and Aaja Nachle. And with this year’s Tashan going down the drain, the clouds of ill luck seem to be hovering above Yash Raj Films. But all this doesn’t seem to bother the director of the next YRF movie, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic‘s director Kunal Kohli.
The movie Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic is the story of a rich man played by Saif Ali Khan, who due to some circumstances is handed over the responsibility of taking care of four orphaned kids. The trouble is, both sides can’t stand each other. The kids prayers are answered in Rani Mukherji, who appears as this lovely angel of God, sent by He Himself, played by Rishi Kapoor. The story moves on to tell the bonding and the situations that they face.
It was Kunal Kohli‘s previous movie Fanaa, which remains one of the stellar performers of YRF banner, even though it earned poor critical reviews and worked primarily on the return of superstar Kajol, coming together with Aamir Khan. But the bad run of fate of YRF‘s movies at the ticket window has left him unfazed. Kunal Kohli recently said that he has absolutely no worries as long as he trusts his own movie, and he said that he isn’t bothered about other movies’s poor performance.
It is ironical that this is the same production house which has won the top honours (re:position) in Filmfare‘s annual reviews of the most powerful stakeholders in the Hindi Film Industry. Yash Raj Films had ventured into movie distribution big time, but seems like they burnt their hands too. Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra have been handed over the Filmfare Power Award consecutively for thre years now for being the most powerful people in the industry, yet their films have failed to create magic. It speaks volumes about the fact that even with a poor show they are way above their competitors. With just some luck, they could add the much needed relief to their house as well as the Hindi Film Industry, which needs it’s golden mascot back, ASAP! We hope they bring the Tadka back in their films, with Thoda Pyaar from the audiences and Thoda Magic into the scripts. Amen!
