Movie review – Woodstock Villa

Tadka spice – Sikander Kher has got the perfect launch vehicle for himself in Woodstock Villa. Read on to find out why!

Mean is in! Big time! If last year saw Neil Nitin Mukesh playing the role of Johnny Gaddaar effortlessly, this time it is Sikander Kher who has gone all out in this ‘trust-can-go-take-a-plunge’ thriller Woodstock Villa. With the dark and sepia toned Mumbai city as the perfect backdrop of it’s equally dark minded lead characters, the brilliant cinematography and camerawork just brings out the perfect shots for Woodstock Villa, and that just increases your interest in this movie directed by Hansal mehta.

It’s the story of wife who plots her own abduction, in order to test her husband’s loyalties. As a wife, Neha Uberoi is a convincing actress who can make it in the industry, thanx to a role which lets her do a lot more than conventional debuts by other female newcomers. But the star of the film is Sikander Kher. All right, you might have been misled by those promos on your boob-tube, but he is surely gonna make it big in Bollywood with just the right roles. And Arbaaz Khan has kind of mastered the art of playing Read more

(… that much love you gave me…)

main jab bhi, jahaan bhi… kadee dhoop mein tha…
(whenever, wherever I was under rays of troubles…)
teri zulf ne mujhpe sayaan kiya…

Bollywood’s debut fest – the newcomers got their music right!

Tadka spice – The music of at least five upcoming movies starring one or more newcomers are giving tough competition to the rest of the biggies!

Fresh!… is the flavour of the season. Or at least that seems to be the case with so many newcomers plastered across our bbob-tubes these days, and with the music of their movies making all the right waves, the audiences are in for a musical treat this summer. Good music draws crowds is a known fact in the Indian Film Industry, and producers are willing to let loose their purse strings in order to woo the audiences till way inside the movie halls. After all, we are known for our musicals in the West, ain’t it?

Leading the race is Khushboo, starring newcomers Avantikka and Rishi Rehan, which has music by Adnan Sami, lyrics by Javed Akhtar and choreography by who else but, ace of dance masters, Saroj Khan. The tracks like ‘Kyun Hai Mujhe Lagta‘ and ‘Dil Yeh Kahe‘ have done wonders for it’s promos and the producers couldn’t have it better. The music is defintely young and one wishes that the movie turns up as well too.

Next we have Haal-E-Dil, which marks the debut of producer Kumar Mangat’s daughter Amita, along with two sweet faced boys Nakuul Mehta and Adhyayan Suman. In fact all three stars show great promise as bigtime future lead actors, with superb cinematography and awesome close-ups of their faces thriving on their different emotions. The title track ‘Haal-E-Dil‘ is making waves, and it has got as much as four different composers, and a yet-to-be-released on tv song, which features UK’s sensational rapper Hard Kaur, all set to burn the charts. Clearly, it couldn’t have been better for them. (Yet it does – Kajol, a good friend of Kumar Mangat is doing a cameo in the film!)

Aamir Khan’s nephew Imran Khan is making his debut in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, and has got arguably the best, as the music Read more

Music review – Haal-E-Dil

Tadka spiceHaal-E-Dil is creating waves on the small screen with it’s music, and it’s got quite a great score for a movie starring all newcomers!

So you think Bollywood newcomers never had it so good? You are right! Haal-E-Dil’s music has been creating waves from television promos for quite some days now and it’s time now to put on your glasses and introspect the score which seems all set to create ripples on charts!

Haal-E-Dil’s title track ‘Haal-E-Dil‘ is a lovely number composed by Vishal Bhardwaj (wow!) with lyrics by Munna Dhiman, and a very captivating aspect of the song is the singing by the duo Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghoshal. The song is mesmerising, with a tone of longing and craving in love lending it a beautiful aura. Vishal Bhardwaj proves that he is as much a great director as a music composer. The use of sounds is quite fresh in ‘Haal-E-Dil‘.

Anand Raaj Anand teams up with lyricist Sameer to come up with a song which will hit you with Sonu Nigam’s ultra-cool vocals, in the song ‘Jeeta Hoon‘. The song has female voice by Pamela Jain, but it isn’t as much high on either lyrics or music, as it is on Sonu Nigam’s voice which just doesn’t let your attention go away, and that makes ‘Jeeta Hoon‘ a good track, if not a great one!

And here’s the best song of Read more

They are back, together! Just when all the speculation about Karan Johar’s next directorial venture was hogging the limelight, came a peice of news which has been eagerly awaited, like forever. The most successful on screen couple of Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol, are reported to be coming back with Karan Johar’s next venture My Name Is Khan, and the fans of the two couldn’t be more happier. Such is the fan following of these two stars, that the number of their individual fans would fall highly short as compared to the number of fans of Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol, the on screen couple!

Karan Johar’s next, My Name Is Khan, goes on the floor this October, and it’s storyline and basic plot have been kept under the wraps, and highly gaurded. And needless to say, the leading lady opposite King Khan Shah Rukh was a piece of news which everyone wanted to hear first. After glossing over Kareena Kapoor’s name for the pact, the news poured in recently that Kajol would be playing the much sought after role, and it has been reported that she said yes to the role only after a week long going-over the script.

Rumours have it that King Khan would be playing the role of Read more
