Shame on Amrita Rao, shame on Arshad Warsi!

Tadka question – At the 53rd Annual Filmfare Awards. two of our actors refused to do something – What and why?
Year 1999 – Saroj Khan aka “Materji”is handed the Filmfare Best Choreographer Award by MF Hussain and Naghma (song ‘Nimbooda’, movie – Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam)
Year 2002 - Rakesh Ranjan is handed the Filmfare Best Sound Recordist Award by Shyam Benegal and Sharmila Tagore (movie – Aks)
Year 2008 – Sujata Sharma Virk is given the Filmfare Best Costume Designer Award by Abbas-Mustaan (movie – Gandhi, My Father).
And here’s the sad part. At this year’s 53rd Annual Filmfare Awards, two of our stars simply refused to go on stage to hand over the technical awards. Why? Because they thought that this was beneath them!
Amrita Rao and Arshad Warsi, were requested by the Filmfare team to go on-stage and deliver the Technical Awards, which are also the first set of awards handed out each year, in the oldest and the most sought-after awards night of the Indian Film Industry. But when Amrita Rao was asked to do the honours, she refysed saying, “Send me up for something better na! Please!”.
Although it isn’t known what statement Arshad Warsi gave to the staff of India’s leading film magazine Filmfare, but considering the way reports about his high-handedness have been coming for long now, it wasn’t much of a surprise. Barely eleven movies old Amrita Rao, had the tenacity to question the ‘goodness’ of these awards!
One might ask these two, were MF Hussain and Naghma ’small’ to hand out the awards? Should Sharmila Tagore and Shyam Benegal feel disgraced to have done such honours? Abbas-Mustaan’s current release Race is doing extremely well at the box office right now. Should they feel ashamed for having handed out the trophies to people who make the stars appear, look and sound good all the time? It was at the Annual Filmfare Awards 1999, Vinod Khanna, on recieving the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, had thanked all the technicians and spot boys of the industry, who had ever contributed to his super-success. This had lead to a chain reaction, where every actor would now thank the technicians as well for contributing towards their success, and continues till date.
Meanwhile, the Filmfare Team who painstakingly organised each second of the extravaganza, must have been thankful to the gracious and ever smiling father-daughter duo, Kabir Bedi and Pooja Bedi, for doing the honours. The two have been an integral part of the presenters, at Filmfare Awards for a long time now.
Amidst all this, the majorly unsung heroes of the Indian Film Industry would still go around without any useless airs about themselves, making the stars look, sound, appear better than ever…

Kabir Bedi is just awesome – he has the most amazing voice in the industry and by far the best looking. I never realised how special he is – When is he going to get his filmfare for amazing adhievements? he is the one that took Bollywood to Hollywood and brought it back again – you know he has super hero status in Europe – especially Italy for ‘Sandokan’. I cant believe the 70’s he was in James Bond. Come on Indian Film industry – acknowledge his amazing work… Big Bedi!!!
