Movie review - U, Me Aur Hum
Tadka spice - The verdict is out and you have got more reasons to watch this one, than for missing it!
Ajay Devgan gets behind the camera, and the world waits to watch what he has got in store for us. Amidst all the hype sorrounding U, Me Aur Hum, the audience is more than willing to watch the magic of Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha pair again, after a looong time. Kajol is back on screen with her husband, and there is nothing that should have gone wrong with the movie, yet it does. But the finely crafted second half of U, Me Aur Hum manages to make up for it all.
Ajay Devgan’s directorial debut U, Me Aur Hum has got a striking relation to Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par. While Aamir’s Taare Zameen Par made dyslexia awareness it’s focal point, Ajay’s U, Me Aur Hum is a nice take on Alzheimer’s disease, which Kajol’s character suffers from in the movie. The first half is all about wooing stuff and mushy romance on the high seas, but lacks magnetism. It’s only when Ajay manages to throw away the rose tinted glasses, that the reality strikes!
And how! He manages to put up a Read more

Stars ka tadka - Aishwarya Rai and Saroj Khan
Tadka trivia
Saroj Khan, while making her millions of fans dance across the world through her now famous show ‘Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan‘ on NDTV Imagine, tells interesting tales about the stars (yet another reason to watch her show).
Saroj Khan recounted how Aishwarya Rai, while shooting for the Filmfare Best Choreography Award winning song ‘Barso re megha‘ from Guru (2007), had met with an accident. While filming a scene, Ash was supposed to cycle her way through a bridge, during heavy rains and wind storms, and a gushing stream beneath. Her skirt got entangled in the rear wheel, and she fortunately fell on the bridge, otherwise she could just have been washed away! Aishwarya had suffered bruises on her hand, and Saroj Khan recounted how she gave a perfect shot after getting first-aid, while also mentioning that, had there been any other actress, she would have announced pack-up, but not Ash!
The scene where Aishwarya is seen diving into the pond, was completed only when Saroj Khan made her swim the entire length of the pond. Saroj Khan also praised her for dancing atop a large rock, amidst the thunderstorm. She told that Mani Ratnam got apprehensive about shooting that particular scene as the height was way too much risky, made far more dangerous with the blowing wind and heavy rain. But when Aishwarya learnt that her director was forcibly keeping himself from a beautiful sequence, she stubbornly climbed atop with the help of a crane and gave a beautiful shot yet again, while the whole crew was biting nails with tension, almost waiting for her to slip and fall off! Aishwarya Rai has been Saroj Khan’s favourite dancer, since working with her in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999).

Of a few good Hindi film themes and instrumentals …
Tadka spice - Theme music has become an integral part of Hindi movies today and here we are, listing some, which are a must for your music collection!
Theme music is often ignored, even in music reviews but of late, it has become an integral part of not just the promotions, but the movie itself. A R Rahman brought it in vogue with his work for movies like Bombay and Rangeela, and today many music directors are working hard to get the perfect instrumental scores. Not to mention, anyone all over the world can enjoy their beauty.
The beauty of theme music and instrumental tracks lies in the fact that the user doesn’t have to connect to it through lyrics. Instead, one can weave their own story around the tunes. Here we list some of the best instrumentals of Hindi movies…
Cheeni Kum Theme Melody - This Illaiyaraja composition has a very positive feel-good factor to itself. The instruments used are in perfect tandem with a typical London evening mood, and you can’t help but listen to this over and over again.
Daras Bina Nahi Chain from Saawariya - Monty Sharma gives you a high with this soul touching theme song, which has all the highs and lows of the love affair, though a majorly upbeat score, where everything from the sound of a droplet to the anklets will move you.
Heart beat instrumental from Kal Ho Naa Ho - Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy bring you the most under-rated melody with this instrumental. You can almost go through the whole movie throughout it’s length. The gloom, hope and happiness is perfectly matched in the tunes, and it makes you remember the saying “to know happiness, one must experience sadness too”.
Devdas opening credits theme - Just like the movie itself, this one was full of Read more
Shame on Amrita Rao, shame on Arshad Warsi!
Tadka question - At the 53rd Annual Filmfare Awards. two of our actors refused to do something - What and why?
Year 1999 - Saroj Khan aka “Materji”is handed the Filmfare Best Choreographer Award by MF Hussain and Naghma (song ‘Nimbooda’, movie - Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam)
Year 2002 - Rakesh Ranjan is handed the Filmfare Best Sound Recordist Award by Shyam Benegal and Sharmila Tagore (movie - Aks)
Year 2008 - Sujata Sharma Virk is given the Filmfare Best Costume Designer Award by Abbas-Mustaan (movie - Gandhi, My Father).
And here’s the sad part. At this year’s 53rd Annual Filmfare Awards, two of our stars simply refused to go on stage to hand over the technical awards. Why? Because they thought that this was beneath them!
Amrita Rao and Arshad Warsi, were requested by the Filmfare team to go on-stage and deliver the Technical Awards, which are also the first set of awards handed out each year, in the oldest and the most sought-after awards night of the Indian Film Industry. But when Amrita Rao was asked to do the honours, she refysed saying, “Send me up for something better na! Please!”.

Stars ka tadka - Tabu
Tadka trivia
Tabu aka Tabassum Hashmi is one of the most talented actresses in the Indian Film Industry today. When she made her debut opposite Ajay Devgan in Vijaypath (1994), she went on to win a Filmfare Best Debutante Award. But soon the ‘Ruk ruk ruk’ gal made way for meaningful roles, which earned her some commercial, but overwhelmingly huge critical acclaim. She has played a romantic lead in movies like Pehla Pehla Pyaar, provided comic relief in Biwi No.1, done a mujra in Jeet, a village belle in Virasat, played a bar dancer in Chandni Bar (her National Award winning role), played the role of a terror-torn woman in Maachis, a funny nuisance in Hera Pheri, been a part of the ‘Shakespearesque’ Maqbool and much much more. Hollywood star Uma Thurman called her a brave actor for her intense portrayal in Mira Nair’s The Namesake, and this year she went away with yet another Filmfare Award for Critics’ Best Actress, for her to-die-for role in Cheeni Kum. It isn’t for nothing that they call her ‘the thinking man’s actress‘!
