Song analysis - ‘Phatte‘ from U, Me Aur Hum has got it all - thumping music, great vocals, lyrics which dwell on the eternal husband-wife wars. But why is it that the Hindi Film Industry’s Punjabi fixation gets it wrong in most of it’s attempts? In the song ‘Phatte‘ from U, Me Aur Hum, Vishal-Bhardwaj’s score has got the Punjabi touch well, and the lyrics by Munna Dhiman and singing by Adnan Sami and Sunidhi Chauhan is flawless like most of the times. But where ‘Phatte‘ from U, Me Aur Hum fails is the Punjabi accent. Last year’s biggest hit ‘Mauja hi mauja‘ from Jab We Met had authentic Punjabi accent, thanks to Mika Singh’s Punjabi roots. ‘Phatte‘ from U, Me Aur Hum. has all the fake Punjabi accent from the lead singers, and that’s precisely the reason why it will find far less takers than it could have, otherwise. But still, the song ‘Phatte‘ should be given a chance, and we hope that some, if not all our readers, enjoy it.

I don’t like the fake Punjabi accent either! sounds totally stereotypical.
