Nirmala Sadhu Khan, aka Saroj Khan, the dance master of the Indian Film Industry, is a known name today. But what isn’t known is her painful history. Her family was forced to leave Pakistan post partition. Her father changed her very name to shield her from their orthodox relatives. She was forced to work as a child; child artiste, group dancer, assistant dance master and finally dance master. Married off to a 43 year old father of 4, when she was just 13, Saroj Khan gave birth to her first child Raju Khan at age 14 in 1963. In 1965, she gave birth to a daughter who died within eight months of marriage. But Saroj Khan had to report to work the very next day. Her first husband refused to give his name to her children (she had a second daughter with him). She got her first break in 1974, but got recognition only in 1983. She thanks her second husband immensely, and lives with his first wife without any problem. There is much beyond the name Saroj Khan, which one might not know, but after dancing to life’s tunes for quite a while, she turned the tide around, and now makes the whole world dance. We are sure, even you must be saying to her now “Masterji!, Naachte rahiye, aur nachaate rahiye… (Keep dancing and keep making us dance too.)”

i love her the way she dance and dress up very nice but very sad story any way god bless her.

Sorry to who ever this concern. This is the daughter of Saroj Khan herself. U have made a few mistake’s let me correct it for u.
Yes my mother went throught hell lots of pain’s in her life. No she was not forced to work as a child; child artiste, group dancer, assistant dance master and finally dance master but she had no choice but to work because she had 4 sister’s and one brother to look after and she had a widow mother to look after also. Her father died with cancer as her 1st husband. The person she married off was 43 year old father of 4, when she was just 13, Saroj Khan gave birth to her first child Raju Khan at age 14 in 1963. In 1965, she gave birth to a daughter who died within eight months and then she Delivered a healthy baby girl named Cuckoo Khan who is her own dress disinger for her Clothes and for her Group and some times also for her Artists. Her first husband refused to give his name to her children (she had a second daughter with him). She got her first break in 1974, but got recognition only in 1983. She thanks her second husband Sardar Roshan Khan immensely, and for the information she does not live with his first wife but she does not have any problem with her too. Yes then she had again a baby girl from him in 1983 who is called Sukaina Khan who is the daughter of Mr.Sardar Roshan Khan and Mrs. Saroj Khan. There is much beyond the name Saroj Khan, which one might not know, but after dancing to life’s tunes for quite a while, she turned the tide around, and now makes the whole world dance. I ADMIRE YOUR MOM, AND NO ONE COULD EVER TELL BY LOOKING AT HER THAT SHE HAD SO MANY HARDSHIPS IN THE PAST. i THINK SAROJ KHAN IS THE BEST CHOREOGRAPHER EVER, SHE COMPOSES BOTH WESTERN AND INDIAN DANCES SO WELL. I WISH HER ALL THE BEST. I AM 24 YEARS OLD AND I HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WHICH BROKE ME TOTALLY BUT AFTER READING YOUR MOM’S STORY, I FEEL BETTER AND HOPEFUL THANK YOU.
