In the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, the scenes where a heartbroken Salman Khan was seen talking to his dead father, pointing towards the sky, were inspired from director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s own life. He would often do the same thing, in order to connect with his late father. After the movie’s grand success, Sanjay was asked ‘What happened to Sameer after Nandini went away with Vanraj?’ This was the question which prompted him to make Devdas, another tribute to his father who lived a part of his life as a drunk. The movie was a global superhit.
