Tadka spice - continuing our take on the revolution of sort in home entertainment, here’s some more on NDTV Imagine.
Radha Ki Betiyan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi is also a subtle family drama of a woman and her three daughters who migrate from Meerut to Mumbai, and the challenges they have to face in the world. Not just the overcrowded city, but even the landlady, in whose house they move in, keeps giving them trouble. The middle class, and the associated daily problems are brought in a well executed way on screen. Main Teri Parchaain Hun is another family drama, the story of a girl who has to pay a big price for a mistake. It has found place in those, looking beyond Ekta Kapoor productions, but not wanting to miss the sobbing!
Apart from these the NDTV Imagine has serials for kids, which are based on friendship and bravery. Dharam Veer is the story of two teenaged boys, who live in medieval India, while Rajkumar Aaryyan is the story of a prince and his adventures. Ramayan has brought back the good old days of Indian mythology right inside our living rooms.
Ek Packet Umeed is yet another popular programme, a story of a womens’ ashram, where lonely women make pickles and bonds, to form a family of thier own. The comedy in the programme is subtle, yet finely done and evokes a heart warming chortle from it’s audiences. Most of the drama has been shot very simply, trying to keep it believable, if not real.
Apart from these, you have Idea Dhoom Macha De, where you not only get to watch the sultry Malaika Arora Khan hosting the show, but also many famous faces of Indi-pop, back in the limelight after they disappeared some years back. Amongst the most popular of them were Anaida and Baba Sehgal, and the team of judges are the yesteryear’s screen icon Sharmila Tagore, current Filmfare Best Lyrics Award winner Prasoon Joshi, and music director Shankar Mahadevan.
All in all, NDTV Imagine is a revolution in small screen entertainment today, and we just hope it doesn’t fizzle out like Star’s baby, Star One which started like a breath of fresh air, but now runs on re-runs of the very superb shows, that it aired once!
