Aishwarya Rai signs Robot for 4 Crore!

Move over Kareena Kapoor’s Omkara and Jab We Met fad. Queen bee Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has proved that besides talent, power and success, even in terms of pay-packets, she is indeed the number one actress today in Bollywood. Aishwarya Rai has been signed in the next Rajnikanth starrer, for a whopping sum of 40 million Rupees! Last heard, Kareena Kapoor was being vouched as the highest paid actress in tinselville for her 3.5 crore deal for an upcoming project.

After Aishwarya’s marriage last year, she was touted as ‘knot, and out’, what with her movies like Jagmohan Mundhra’s Provoked and Doug Lefler’s The Last Legion earning her only critical acclaim. But it was forgotten that she had just delivered two massive hits in Sanjay Gashvi’s Dhoom:2 - Back In Action and Mani Ratnam’s Guru, and this year in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar. Aishwarya Rai’s success went far beyond just cinema. This made her a ‘not out’ instead.

While Kareena’s stars had started to shine only with Mani Ratnam’s Yuva, and Sudhir Mishra’s Chameli where she got only critical success, for commercial one, she had to wait till Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara and Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met. Compare this with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who gained critical acclaim right from the start and tasted success with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Subhash Ghai’s Taal, after which it was an upward spiral of her success, barring a few wrong decisions.

Kareena might plum projects in her hand but her public image has taken a beating post her breaking-off with (read: dumping) Shahid Kapur, and her fling with Saif Ali Khan. Aishwarya Rai, who has just delivered this year’s first hit in Jodhaa Akbar, yet has one reason to complain: reportedly, she is not even getting a third of her co-star Rajnikanth’s fee, which is fifteen crore. But that has always been a case with Bollywood actresses, be it Kareena Kapoor or Bipasha Basu. Meanwhile, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s fans can rejoice with this piece of news, and as for Kareena Kapoor, she may use her Jab We Met card for as long as it can help her. Ouch!
