Ashutosh Gowariker‘s magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar has opened to great response across the nation, barring Rajasthan, where the protest by the Raput community has forced the distributors from releasing the film. The movie has got good response majorly, and has been criticised on only one account: it’s length. The movie has two intervals and is three hours and twenty minutes long. Many viewers expressed interest for a second screening as well, despite it being a long and simple love story.

Jodhaa Akbar, starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai amongst others, opened amidst widespread excitement for various reasons, including the return of Hrithik Roshan to the big screen after a gap of more than thirteen months, and the re-pairing of Aishwarya Rai with Hrithik Roshan after Dhoom:2. Hrithik Roshan has stated time and again that Aishwarya Rai is his favourite co-star.

To add to the charms of the movie, it has music by A R Rahman, and lyrics by Javed Akhtar. The team of A R Rahman, Javed Akhtar and Ashutosh Gowariker came together for the third time with Jodhaa Akbar, after having worked on both Lagaan and Swades. Jodhaa Akbar revolves around the story of a Rajput princess Jodhaa’s marriage, which was more of a political alliance, with the great emperor Akbar, and their subsequent quest for love amidst the drama including battles, jealousy, duty and many other emotions.

The movie has beautiful sets built in Karjat, designed by none other than Nitin Chandrakant Desai, the same art director who designed sest for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, as well as Devdas. The movie boasts of intricately done sets and extremely well rehearsed sequences of lead stars Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, including fighting with elephants and a sword-fighting sequence, which noted film critic Anupama Chopra termed as “probably the only sexual foreplay ever in Hindi movies which has heroine going all over her own husband”. The costumes have been designed by Neeta Lulla, and all the jewellery worn by the lead star cast in the movie is real.
