Filmfare Awards nominations 2008 – the surprises (Part II)

simran February 7, 2008 0

The very first nomination in the category, Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Male), throws up a pleasant surprise, which shows how the selection of nominees has matured over the years. Aamir Khan, nominated for Taare Zameen Par, is leading the race, and if there is any competition to him, it’s from Mithun Chakraborty‘s act in Guru, though Shreyas Talpade in Om Shanti Om is also another force to reckon with.

On the other hand, in the Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Female) category, we have Konkona Sen Sharma with two nominations. Konkona and Kunal Kapoor have become favourites for side-roles, though Kunal recently made a statement that he won’t do any such roles from now on. Rani Mukerji too has been nominated for her quintessential-good-hearted-courtesam act in Saawariya. But the hot contenders areTisca Chopra for Taare Zameen Par, and Shilpa Shukla for Chak De! India. Tough, this one!

This time the declaration of nominees didn’t include the categories like Best Actor In A Comic Role, Best Actor In A Villianous Role. But surely, Filmfare can’t do away with the categories. Though the predictions can be made, but we’ll leave it to the actual Filmfare night, when the awards would be given out.

Similarly, there is no declaration for the nominees of Best Choreographer, which has been missing from the much awaited adverts for quite some time now. But Vaibhavi Merchant will surely not be a nominee for Aaja Nachle, since she has been panned severly for her choreography in Madhuri Dixit‘s comeback vehicle, Aaja Nachle.

Bollywood Tadka will be back with an analytic look at the nominees of the musical category. Keep watching this space!
