The Filmfare Awards changed the whole format of the annual show last year. Till 2006, Filmfare Awards, being the most awaited event of the year in the Indian Film Industry, were held at the MMRDA Grounds, in Goregaon, Mumbai. There used to be a large audience from the general public as well and the show would be telecast live on television sets across the world. Before Sony Entertainment Television bought the exclusive telecast rights, Filmfare Awards were continuosly telecast on the National Channel, better known as Door-Darshan, or DD-1. And there used to be repeat telecasts as well.

But last year, in response to the losing credibility of the movie awards shows, Filmfare made sure that it wouldn’t be counted in as yet another award show, which unfortunately are shown these days, each month, as if soap operas.

Starting 2007, Filmfare Awards shifted base to the sprankling new Yash Raj Studios, where a limited audience was invited strictly by invitation, and this gave the Filmfare team nightmares as it became impossible to cut down the huge guest list to the selected ones. Moreover, the show was recorded, but not telecast live on television, only to be shown a few days after the actual event took place. And no, this time they didn’t give the audience a second chance: there was no repeat telecast, a decision likely to be implemented here on. So forget everything and make sure that you are free this Sunday night!

6 day to go… don’t miss the 53rd Annual Filmfare Awards-2008, on Sony Entertainment Television, 2nd March, 8:00 p.m.
