The Indian Film Industry has still not got that one big hit that it has been waiting for, since the start of the year. Though Ashutosh Gowariker’s magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar could be the answer, the speculation is rife with mixed reactions with some terming it to be the elusive hit, and others saying that the low-key publicity could dampen the movie goer’s spirit.
There are news articles suggesting that the movie’s long run, running into more than three hours and forty minutes will be a major drawback. But the multiplexes are popular for going the snip snip way themselves, when and as they see a movie going a minute above three hours. This was the case with the 181 minutes, or three hours and one minute long Devdas which was snipped by about five minutes, and the loss was of the audience entirely.
The songs of Jodhaa Akbar haven’t caught on like a rage, even as they are becoming popular, and Aishwarya seems to have lost some of her fan following for sure. To top it all, there are controversies surrounding the movie from all angles, the latest one alleging that rare and exotic birds were ill treated and got killed on the sets of Jodhaa Akbar.
But optimists say that when you have credible names like Ashutosh Gowariker, whose Lagaan ran into more than four hours, and Aishwarya Rai who has kept her head high despite everything, with Hrithik Roshan, the one who audiences last saw set the screen on fire with Ash, more than an year ago, combined with the magic of technicians and music by A R Rahman, then you are surely going to lay the skepticism to rest. This Friday, will be one of the most important of this year. And we hope that the movie goes on to sizzle the box office like no one else. in true Akbar style, ‘Aakraman’!
