Tadka question - Since the race is hotting up for Filmfare Awards this year, what are the surprises in this year’s nominations? Read on!

The edition of Times Of India, dated Feb 6, 2008, has created a lot of excitement, after the declaration of the nominations for the popular awards categories of Filmfare Awards 2008. And just like the previous years, the competition just got tougher, in the race to grab the Indian Film Industry’s oldest, most sought after and most awaited awards, where even the chance to perform itself is considered an acheivement of sorts.

In the Best Film category, we have Om Shanti Om as one of the nominees, a movie which was panned by the critics for being a no-brainer entertainer. Though Farah Khan will definitely not get the award, thanks to the presence of Chak De! India and Taare Zameen Par, Life..In A Metro could have added better tadka to the competition.

After Filmfare gave up the virtual rule of having only 5 nominees in each category till exactly a few years back, this year we have six nominees in most of the categories, including Best Director.

Surprisingly, the Best Actor In A Leading Role (Male) category has Darsheel Safary too as one of the contenders, just like there is no age bar in the Oscars. (Remember Hailey Joel Osment for Sixth Sense?) When Amitabh Bachchan re-entered Bollywood a few years back with his new avataar, he made sure that everyone bend the rules and relaxed all age limits in the popular categories. If Asha Bhonsle can fight with Sunidhi Chauhan, so can Darsheel Safary and Shah Rukh Khan.

La Madame, Madhuri Dixit makes a sizzling comeback in the Best Actor In A Leading Role (Female) category, for her superb performance in the super-dud of a movie, Aaja Nachle. But she is not the top contender yet! The race is on between Aishwarya Rai, for her flawless performance as the ever so supportive wife in Guru, and Kareena Kapoor’s rib-tickling act as the can’t-be-dared-ignored Punjabi kudi in Jab We Met.

Tadka team will be back with lots more spicey takes on the other nominees … stay tuned!
