Song Analysis – The great Lata Mangeshkar put her heart and soul while singing this melody ‘ruk ja raat‘ from the movie Dil Ek Mandir, which rode high on the quality of lyrics, penned by Shailendra. The lyrics which focus on a night when the love struck protagonist asks the moon and the night itself to be still, so that she can savour those elusive moments of togetherness, would strike a chord with anyone. The lines are superbly written and the music by the duo Shankar-Jaikishan, goes with the melancholy of this song, picturised on the legend Meena Kumari herself. Hear it, and you are bound to love it.
