Tadka spice – Queen bee Aishwarya Rai will be seen on screen after a long sabbatical in Jodhaa Akbar. Why is her presemce in promos being kept so low? Click on ‘Read more’ to view the complete article.

Aishwarya Rai is back on the big screen with Ashutosh Gowariker‘s Jodhaa Akbar, but seems like the director wants to use her much awaited return in mainstream cinema, to the hilt. That is why so far there is not even a single promo in which Aishwarya, as Jodhaa can be seen either singing a song or saying any dialogue, at least not on the small screen.

After Jodhaa-Akbar’s theatrical trailer released a few weeks back, they have been a hit with the masses, and Aishwarya Rai had some of the most striking dialogue’s, and even holding Hrithik to a sword, in the almost four minute trailer. But keeping the wider reach of television in ind, it seems to be a well planned strategy of the production house being the movie, i.e. Ashutosh Gowariker Pictures Pvt. Ltd. (AGPPL), to have the lady remain mute in these promos, and let her work speak for itself in the movie itself. Aishwarya is playing Jodhaa, the title charcater of the movie, who is shown in the promos to be a silent woman, but in the actual role, she is a fierce warrior queen, known for her intelligence. Seems like the director as well as the ad agency, want her character to be the underdog till the time the movie comes out. The costume drama is one of the most awaited movies of 2008.

Jodhaa-Akbar was slated to be released on the 25th of January, but had been postponed to later unconfirmed date. Aishwarya was last seen in the international dud ‘The Last Legion‘, where along with Ben Kingsley and Colin Firth she did prove her mettle, but als in the hands of a weak storyline and a hollow script. Just before that Provoked was released, but faded out despite Aishwarya benefiting from all the applause she got for her stupendous acting in the movie. Before that she was seen with hubby Abhishek Bachchan, in Mani Ratnam‘s Guru, which was the first and a massive hit of 2007, released in January itself.

As far as the Greek god, hunk Hrithik Roshan is concerned, he had no release in 2007, but remained in the spotlight. He was also signed by the agency which manages Brad Pitt in Hollywood, and his Rs. 36 Crore deal for a three movie contract with Adlabs had everyone wanting to know more about the person, who almost ravaged King Khan Shah Rukh Khan‘s career, only to be written off later in a series of mistakes, then to be re-invented. His chemistry with Aishwarya in Dhoom 2: Back In Action, left the audience asking for more. And it is this chemistry, amongst the film’s many USPs, which will draw you to a cinema near your home. Let’s wait and watch!
