Tadka question - So is Sunday a movie worth watching? You bet it is!
Ajay Devgan, Irrfan Khan, Ayesha Takia and Arshad Warsi - a lethal combination, one might say, considering their appeal in the Hindi Film Industry today, and something that the director Rohit Shetty must be able to bank on. And that’s exactly what he seems to have done, in what seems to be a thriller cum comedy, all set to be the first commercial big hit of 2008.
The movie Sunday is good, to say the least, especially in the first half, but it is the second half which does wonders for everyone. As compared to many other movies which have interesting first halves, and decrepit second ones, this is a movie which not only reverses the trend, but also does it for the better.
Sunday is about Ayesha Takia, who plays a happy-go-lucky animation voice over artiste, and once during a late night party on a Sunday, she gets involved in a series of misgivings, where a girl-boy fight ensues, scratch marks appear on her neck, and a girl is muredered. To add to the chaos, there is man who loves to emulate Dracula and a cabbie who is taken for a ride! The problem is that she becomes the main suspect in the murder case and can’t remember a single thing from that night. Come Ajay Devgan as her innispector husband, and the story builds up quite interestingly.
Sunday, is a well made movie, that is if you are able to forgive but not forget the loosely crafted sequences in the first half, so that you get the idea pretty well, about what awaits you in the second. The comedy is good, the music is cool (save for a shrieky Shibani Kashyap number having Esha Deol in a guest appearance), and Arshad Warsi steals the show, hands-in-glove with the Irfan Khan’s funnyman antics. Ayesah Takia and Ajay Devgan are superb as well.
Tadka verdict - Go, watch it! And have a paisa vasool Sunday!
