Tadka question - With many big budget movies falling flat on their faces in the year gone by, whats does Race have at stake for it’s six leading stars? Click on ‘Read more’ to find out.
The promos of Race have become a hit with the audience, and the six stars of the movie are stealing the show on all the channels. Abbas-Mustan have brought forth yet another sizzling couple in Bipasha Basu an Saif Ali Khan. But even as the director duo must pray for the film’s success, since their Naqaab went away without lifting any veil from the cash registers, leave alone opening them, it is the stars who have a lot at stake too.
Leading the pack is Saif Ali Khan, who didn’t have a single hit in 2007:
Eklavya: The Royal Guard: flop
Nehlle Pe Dehlla: superflop
Ta Ra Rum Pum: flop
Despite critical acclaim, Saif needs to bounce back, pretty good and pretty soon. Only Ta Ra Rum Pum garnered somewhat good collections in very few centres, and it was his alleged affairs (with everyone from Bipasha, to the now confirmed mate, (Kareena Kapoor) which kept him in news more than his movies, in 2007.
Bipasha Basu, who delivered a Dhan Dhana Dhan(-dabba-)Goal just a few months back, needs to make her career as hard as her abs on display in the promos of Race. In 2007 she had:
Nehlle Pe Dehlla: superflop
Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal: flop
Bips, made sure that her rendezvous with Cristiano Ronaldo, made her an international star, and post her Dhoom:2 (2006) success story, which gave her success hangover well into 2007, she made news, more than movies. Though her sizzling appearance in No Smoking, in the song ‘phoonk de‘, won’t be forgotten any time soon.
Akshaye Khanna, need not worry, since with his powerhouse performances, he will keep getting roles. Following is his score card of 2007:
Salaam-e-Ishq: flop
Naqaab: flop
Gandhi, My Father: flop
Aaja Nachle: flop
It isn’t Akshaye’s track record that works for him, as much as his performances, which continue to surprise everyone, with the growth that this ‘Himalayaputra’ has done. Race could provide some thrills and pace to his resume though.
Katrina Kaif: Surprise surprise! She is the only one leading the pack, with a helluva four hits in 2007-
Namastey London: superhit
Apne: hit
Partner: hit
Welcome: hit
The lady is surely riding high, with such a great track record. And shemight still not be speaking her Hindi correctly, but who cares? The sensual lass is riding high, and needs no worrying, at least till a long time.
Anil Kapoor: Anil started the year with a superflop, but ended it with a great hit:
Salaam-e-Ishq: flop
Welcome: hit
And with his daughter Sonam having alreadymade her presence felt in the industry, he can now sit back and take up choiciest of roles where he won’t be bound to play the ‘dude’ all the time. He has a production house to look after too, and as he said recently, he can now search for offbeat roles, like playing a gay man!
Sameera Reddy… who? We are sorry, but we can’t provide the most dismal performance record over here. The beauty who came with a bang, has little to offer these days, and one just hopes that Race makes her come back in the big Bollywood race itself, since she has been missing from the action for quite a long time.
With so much at stake for everyone, we hope that Race races ahead and revives the charisman of it’s directors, as well as providing the much needed boost to its leading star cast.
