Tadka spice - It is a tribute to the 70s’ showmanship, and is very watchable because of Shah Rukh Khan and lots more! Please click on ‘Read more’ to view the complete movie review of Om Shanti Om.
Just sit back and enjoy! No matter how cliche it sounds, it is THE funda to be followed after the curtains draw apart and the credits of Om Shanti Om start rolling. Leave your logics behind because Farah Khan goes all out in an effort to pay the ultimate tribute to the 70s in her second directorial venture.
And as much as you would like to find resons to watch this movie, you can’t help but feel that this is Shah Rukh Khan’s movie all the way. The film has all the ingredients of a masala flick and Farah is flawless in paying her ode to the showmen of 70s, what with the brainless twists, and all the idiosyncrasies associated with that period. So there you have, punarh-janams aka reincarnations, ghosts to haunt you, ‘ganga-jamuna bahaati’ maas and all the cliche words associated with romance in those days. And Deepika Padukone is ravishing to say the least. Watch her in her first scene of the movie and you’ll know that you will relish the experience of seeing this movie, which is a mixture of so many ‘trends’ associated with that period. You would end up having a nostalgic feeling, and even though the second half of the movie becomes less enjoyable, Shah Rukh saves it all along. Kirron Kher as usual at her best, is playing a Rakhi-like mother, and Shreyas Talpade, with his puppy-dog-charming-eyes impresses once again.
And surprise surprise!! It is Arjun Rampal who manages to steal the show too. As the grey haired meanie, he has been honed by Farah quite well. And his look in the 70s re-establishes the fact that he was always meant to be a screen scorcher. The first half of the movie has all the drama where a leading lady of Bollywood, Shantipriya played by the graceful Deepika Padukone, is the love of an extra, Om Prakash Makhija, played by King Khan. Shantipriya loves the producer Arjun Rampal. But love goes awry and she ends up being killed and spends her last moments ‘Om ki baahon mein’ (in Om’s arms). The lovelorn dude suffers a huge setback and dies soon thereafter, leaving behind a depressed Kirron Kher.
‘Aur phir, kuch saal baad’, you have the new Om who is a bigda hua star of modern movies, where Deepika complements him. And then begins the avengeful part and all that crap. Crap because it is only Shah Rukh who manages to keep the second half going, because Deepika is busy chewing gums. But Shah Rukh more than makes up for the missing things. And if there is nothing else which intrigues you, the baap of all item numbers, ‘deewangi deewangi’ will definitely make you sit up and take notice. How could Farah Khan manage thirty one stars on a single set, with clashing egos and all the questions hovering in your mind, while other directors can’t manage even two tantrum loving newcomers? And the Filmfare Awards sequence is just so damn special. You gotta see it to believe it! And all those thinking still about the SRK-Bachchan clash may eat humble pie. Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan have both given a brief yet powerful guest appearance in the movie. Ahem Ahem! Lastly, the score by Vishal Shekhar is something that you’ll take back home, definitely.
All in all, the BEST ‘time pass’ movie which is more than these words, and will definitely be remembered for a long time. A must watch on the big screen, AT LEAST ONCE. Enjoy the show!

gaurav hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
an excellent film by farah khan keep it up farah by wize & daniel!
LOL..
I AM SURPRISED TO SEE PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIKING A BULL CRAP MOVIE LIKE OM SHANTI OM..
WAT A FUCKED UP MOVIE. NO REALITY, NO SUBJECT MATTER, NO SOUL.
FARAH KHAN DO WHAT U DO BEST. CHOREOGRAPHY. STOP MAKING THESE SCREWED UP MOVIES. FIRST YOU MADE MAIN HOON NA, WHERE AN ARMY OFFICER (SRK) HAD NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN TO GET THE CHIEF OF ARMY HIS DAUGHTER BACK. AND NOW ANOTHER FANTASY MOVIE MADE IN LALA LAND. LOL, AND ITS FUNNY PEOPLE ACTUALLY BUYING THIS SHIT.
To Shahid, you’re obviously missing the point of the movie (and the purpose of Farah Khan’s movies to date) - it’s meant to be a spoof of “typical Bollywood,” - in the same vein of Hollywood’s Austin Powers and its spoof of the 60s. It’s meant to be fun - no other purpose!
Why do people think that all cinema has to be ‘deep’ or ‘artsy’ to be good? Indian cinema gets an especially bad rap for this. Indian cinema is different for a reason and has a great history behind it. Not to say I don’t enjoy and appreciate a well crafted art film, but Indian commercial cinema shouldn’t apologize or conform to what western viewers deem to be ‘good cinema.’ It’s what keeps things interesting.
Shahid such a k00l msg. Keep it up!
