Song analysis - From now on, the term ‘casting coup‘ will become synonymous with the song ‘deewangi deewangi‘ from Om Shanti Om. Farah Khan has accomplished a task which was virtually impossible, by managing to feature thirty one leading stars of the Indian Film Industry in a single song for her movie. The song has all the grandiose elements associated with itself and even though composers Vishal-Shekhar have done a splendid job, it is the video which in itself is a tribute to the great big Bollywood family. The singers include Shaan, singing for most of the lines of Shah Rukh, Udit Narayan and Shreya Goshal, lending their voices for the flood of stars and the versatile Sunidhi Chauhan with her X-factor & finally Rahul Saxena, the singer from the first season of Indian Idol. All the singers have done a marvellous job and even though getting a different voice for each one of them could have been a bit better, what works is the fact that barring Rahul, each of the other singers have sung for almost all the stars featured in the song, save for the ones from the bygone era. That is why they are the voice of such a huge list. And even as sites jostle to get a line or two right in the very well written song by Javed Akhtar, the whole feel of the song reminds you of the party, fun, family and dreams aspect associated with our vibrant industry. So much so that you’ll find yourself cherishing the experience of watching this song the most, that is if you are lucky to catch Om Shanti Om on the big screen because in most centres, tickets have been sold off till Monday. But you’ll surely catch it on screen now, won’t you?
