Song anlysis – Since mid 90s when Daler Mehndi came on the pop scene, Bollywood made a bee-line for Punjabi verses and lines in it’s songs. The free-soul and from-the-heart style of Punjab found a huge following in Bollywood numbers, but soon it became monotonus with non-Punjabi singers giving hardly any authenticity to Hindi film songs with a Punjabi touch. Barring the likes of Jaspinder Narula and her Punjabi ilk, hardly any songs got their Punjabi right. But with Jab We Met’s ‘mauja hi mauja’, everything seems to have gone perfect. Starting from the music, till the lyrics, it seems like music director Pritam did his homework very well. The next part, the singer, could have destroyed the song had it been given to any non-Punjabi singer. But Pritam has hit the target bang-on by roping in Daler Mehndi’s brother Mika Singh for this song. The voice suits the boy-man hero Shahid Kapoor to the T in the video. The energy is overwhelming and beats hardly give you a chance to stop tapping your feet. The lyrics by Irshad Kamil use words which have rarely been used in Bollywood’s songs, and this is the only reason that quite a lot of the listeners/audience might not have been able to keep up with the fast paced number, when it came to humming the words. But here you have it, the lyrics, all set for you to enjoy the song. So what are you waiting for? Happy dancing!

Suppose to be a Punjabi song!…but it starts with the Assamese words ..tate bohi bohi loi…which means nothing but juut sitting there

Seems, pritam chkraborty might have an assamese connection. Well its “Tate bohi bohi roi/rowtey”, which jst means – ‘while sitting and waiting there’. So, these assamese words do not make any freaking sense – just thrown in there.
Actually the original version of this song is assamese..its an assamese folk song.
